Sonic the Hedgehog Party Decorating Ideas
For a Sonic the Hedgehog party, there are so many fun pieces of this character/video game that you can work into the party: speed, racing, chaos emeralds, golden rings, video games…lots of fun ideas for pulling this party together!
Let’s start with colors. The main colors in Sonic the Hedgehog are blue, red, yellow and gold. You can work these into the party with table covers, paper lanterns, paper fans, balloons, tassel banner, paper pennant banner, even wrapping paper.
For a big focal point behind the party table, you could use a large Sonic the Hedgehog wall decal either directly on your wall or on a cardboard or foam poster board display. Cover the cardboard or poster board with wrapping paper first and you have an easy backdrop that helps to pull the whole theme together.
To add height to your table to display the food, boxes make great cake stands! Simply cover boxes with red, blue or yellow wrapping papers then place your trays of food on top.
Work in the video game part of the theme with a “Power Up” banner. Simply use a red paper pennant banner and some gold stickers. Looking for something larger? Check out these gold foil letter balloons.
Love this look? Want to create your own unique party display? Here are some supplies to help you get started:
Sonic the Hedgehog Party Backdrop
Party photo booths are always popular! Kids love the chance to act silly for pictures and parents love seeing photos of their kids having fun at the party. Photo booth photos are a great addition to Thank You cards after the party.
To create this party backdrop, start with a blue plastic table cover as a scene setter. These stick to the wall really well just with static – no tape or tacks required!
You’ll want a Sonic the Hedgehog somewhere in the scene like this large Sonic the Hedgehog Standup or this Sonic the Hedgehog jumbo balloon.

Sonic the Hedgehog Party Food
Party food for kids should be kept simple – pizza, hamburgers, sandwiches, fries, vegetables, etc. Kids can be picky eaters so simple is usually the best way to go. Some tasty ideas include:
- mini burgers (sliders)
- onion rings or curly fries labeled as “Golden Rings”
- “Golden Ring” stuffed crust pizza
- vegetables labeled with “power up”
- using a star or donut cookie cutter, cut out ring and star shapes with cheese or sandwiches
Sonic the Hedgehog Party Desserts
Aside from the games, desserts are always a party highlight for kids. Some themed dessert ideas for a Sonic the Hedgehog party include:
- cookies cut into diamond shapes and labeled as “chaos emeralds” (chaos emeralds colors are yellow, purple, red, green, grey, orange and blue)
- donuts labeled as “golden rings”
- blue iced cupcakes in blue lightning wrappers
- gummy ring pop candies labeled as “chaos emeralds”
- blue and yellow popcorn balls (recipe for popcorn cake here)
- red, yellow and blue candies like Sixlets
- red, yellow and blue fruit cups (strawberries, pineapple and blueberries)
Sonic the Hedgehog Party Games
Sonic the Hedgehog is known for his speed so some racing games would work great for this theme. You could set this up like a relay race for kids to race around plastic cones, hand off large rings to other team members, use large golden rings (hula hoops) to jump through, a Chaos Emeralds hunt (like digging in a sandbox to find an emerald before moving onto the next step in the game), and a “golden ring” toss using yellow glow sticks and plastic bottles.
- ring toss game
- construction cones
- gold O foil balloons (to use as Golden Rings to hand off in the relay race)
Of course there’s the video game side of Sonic the Hedgehog. If your party budget allows it, you could rent a mobile game truck to park outside your house. Kids could take turns playing Sonic games inside the truck.
Prize Punch – using some personalized Sonic the Hedgehog stickers, blue plastic cups, yellow tissue paper and a white poster board, you could create your own prize punch game. Here are some instructions for this DIY party project.
