Your little one has hit that milestone age – one whole hand! This big five year old is ready to have a whale of a good time with an ocean themed birthday party with their best buds. Set sail for an adventure when you invite the posse to party and sing happy birthday surrounded by aquatic creatures! They’ll enjoy ocean themed treats, challenge each other to under the sea themed adventures and will be surrounded by waves of blue and green!

Ocean Party Planning & Invitations

Encourage guests to dive right into your ocean party with a personalized invitation featuring an underwater scene.

Ocean Party Decorations

Guests will think they just dove down to the deep blue sea with an ocean themed wall setter  behind the main table.

Make sure no one mistakes how old your little guppy is and display a large #5 right over the dessert table.  You may never guess it, but this party decoration is made with paper napkins and cardboard! Check out the full tutorial for this simple and adorable accessory below.

Complete the transformation of this dresser turned dessert spot with a fish net capturing the normally stationed tabletop accessories  that are caught up in the fun!

Sprinkle hints of ocean blue and seafoam green throughout the decorations and throughout the food choices.

Ocean Party Food

Birthday parties are sweet so create an assortment of ocean themed treats to enjoy! Fill small cups with blue Jello and gummy sharks swimming inside. Add a white wave of whipped cream on top to sweeten the deal!

Let the kids dig into some sweet treats with a mini candy buffet filled with candies fitting your party’s color palette. Blue lollipops become round shells, rock candy becomes seaweed and gumballs are shiny rocks on the sea floor.  Insert ocean photo props into these containers or attached to a cupcake stand to add hints of sea creatures swimming about.

Keep the turtle paper plates and napkins within reach on this fun dessert table. Dress up your cutlery with Lifesaver candies and baker’s twine so there’s no losing these key items!

No doubt a group of 5  year olds can build up quite a thirst so make sure to have plenty of electrolyte filled drinks on hand, each wrapped with a personalized birthday message!

Ocean Party Activities

Once pumped with sugar, your party guests will be ready to let loose with some fun. Reel them in with fun carnival style ocean themed games:

  • Use magnetic fishing sets in a mini pool. To make it a little more challenging, buddy up and put a blindfold on one partner while the other calls our directions on how to catch a fish! Tip: if you plan to try this activity indoors, lay down a water print tablecloth to help contain any accidental splashes.
  • Create a large mouthed fish or shark out of cardboard and throw shark bait (bean bags) into his mouth
  • Pull out the sandbox and throw in some buried treasure to explore!

Ocean Party Favors

Send guests home with a taste of the ocean and memory of your ocean inspired bash. Attach water bottle wrappers to a bucket and fill with an assortment of goodies including a personalized bookmark, animal sticker book, ocean tattoos, and a mini sea animal toy.

Throw in some Swedish Fish or Goldfish crackers for something to munch on for the ride home.

Easy DIY: Paper Napkin Party Backdrop

Large scale party decorations don’t have to break the bank. Use simple party supplies, like paper napkins, and a recycled piece of cardboard or foam core to create a custom design for your party backdrop.
