Monster Party Planning & Invitations

In addition to basic Monster party supplies, like plates, cups, napkins, and decorations, you may want to consider purchasing the following items for your Monster party theme:

  • Kid-friend monster movies such as Monsters Inc. (G), Monster House (PG), The Nightmare Before Christmas (PG),  and Labyrinth (PG)
  • Black lights and glow stickers
  • Halloween music, sound effects and costumes
  • Book about monsters such as Where the Wild Things Are and The Monster at the End of This Book
Creative invitations build excitement and can increase attendance at your child's monster party. Here are some ideas to get you started:
  • Use fill-in-the-blank invitations with a monster design, and tie each one to a monster paw before delivering them to your guests. Make the monster paw by using a clear plastic glove with one gumdrop in the tip of each finger as fingernails, and fill with popped popcorn. Tie the glove closed with a piece of green ribbon or a pipe cleaner.
  • For a special touch, let us print personalized monster invitations for you! We'll include your child's name and all the party details with a background design that complements your monster party theme.

Monster Party Decorating & Food Ideas

Choose from our list of decorating ideas to create a monster atmosphere for your party. Some monster decorations may frighten younger children, so decide which ideas will be the most fun for your guests. Try just a few decorations, or go all out!

  • Draw monster footprints leading up to your door using sidewalk chalk.
  • Cut fat monster feet from green poster board and attach them to the floor leading from the door to the main party room.
  • Create a dramatic look in the main party room by replacing the light bulbs with green or blue bulbs. Hand out neon glow necklaces to each guest as they arrive.
  • Hang a sign on your front door that says "Warning, monsters inside! Enter at your own risk!"
  • For older kids, rent or borrow a fog machine to create a spooky monster atmosphere.
  • Make monster hands from clear plastic gloves. Stuff the gloves with tissue paper and tie them closed with black ribbon. Decorate by drawing a scar across the back of each hand with green craft paint, add fake fingernails, a ring, or attach a plastic insect. Place the monster hands on various tables, and save a few to perch on the edge of food platters!

Your little monsters will love party food with a spooky theme! Here are a few ideas to turn normal food items into a yummy monster meal!

  • Serve food the children enjoy, but give it a yucky monster name to make it more fun! Make little signs to put on the table in front of each food item so the kids can laugh as they eat. For example, mini pigs in a blanket can be called monster toes; grapes and melon balls can be called monster eyes, and apple slices cut with a pointed end can be called monster teeth.
  • Make a plate of monster fingers by using a tiny dab of cream cheese (or peanut butter) to attach an almond slice "fingernail" to one end of a baby carrot.
  • Use your favorite sugar cookie recipe or a roll of ready-made cookie dough from the grocery store. Add a small amount of green food coloring to the dough, and then shape into 1 1/2 inch ovals. Roll the ovals in plain sugar and place on a cookie sheet. Press an oval shaped candy such as a black jelly bean or a peanut M&M onto one end of each cookie as the toenail.
