What You'll Need:
- Several Jars
- A Large Pot or Novelty Cauldron
- Masking Tape
- A Pen or Marker
- Baking Soda
- Liquid Dish Soap
- Green Food Coloring
Place 1/2 cup of baking soda in a measuring cup or glass jar, and label it as "Powdered Unicorn Horns" with masking tape and a pen or marker. Place 1/4 cup of liquid dish soap in a container labeled "Troll Slime." Finally, place 1 cup of vinegar in a jar, and add a few drops of green food coloring to it; label the jar "Dragon's Blood." Set up the "cauldron" on a surface that can handle spills, in case the potion boils over. (Note:
If you can't find an actual cauldron at a Halloween or other novelty store, a large cooking pan will also work well.)
At the Party:
Set the ingredients around the cauldron. Tell the children the name of each ingredient, and then let the birthday child demonstrate how to make a potion! First, pour the powdered unicorn horns (i.e. baking soda) into the cauldron. Next, add several drops of troll slime (i.e. dish soap) to the jar of dragon's blood (i.e. green-tinted vinegar). Then, slowly pour the dragon's blood/troll slime mixture into the cauldron, combining it with the powdered unicorn horns, and watch as the potion bubbles and simmers!
