Themed Pinatas

Piñatas are a favorite birthday party activity. Set it out early and it will be a festive decoration that will have all the kids anticipating the fun. Then when it's finally time to play, the kids can take turns trying to break it and claim the candy reward. There are over a hundred piñatas and pinata kits to choose from, so you're sure to find one that fits your party theme. Everything from animals to hobbies to cartoon characters are represented.

Most pinatas are shaped like objects such as robots, animals, vehicles, or characters. They're covered in colorful tissue paper and big enough to hold lots of candy and small toys. There are also disk shaped pinatas with themed pictures on them featuring everything from Power Rangers to dinosaurs to Justin Bieber. You can even get a "blank" pinata that has space to affix a round Mylar balloon. That gives you hundreds of additional themes to pick from.

Usually, the children take turns being blindfolded and swinging at the pinata with a stick. The first kid to break it wins, but all the kids dive to pick up the candy. Pull string pinatas are a great alternative for indoor use or for when the children are too young to handle swinging a stick. Each child pulls a string that dangles from the pinata. Most just pull right off, but one string will tear open the pinata and allow the candy to fall to the floor. There are conversion kits so that most pinatas can be made into a pull string type.

Be sure to get plenty of pinata filler too. A pinata is no fun unless there's lots of candy to eat after it's broken.
