I am a stickler for manners, and I can't stand it when you give a gift and don't even get a thank you. After my son's birthday parties, he and I sit down and write out thank you notes to all who attended or sent a gift/card. We always include a little note on why he liked it or how he'll use it, which adds a nice touch.
