Shoelace & Balloon Barrettes

What You'll Need:
- Metal Barrette Clasps (available at most craft stores)
- Brightly Colored Balloons (un-inflated)
- Shoelaces in Bright Colors (you'll need at least 2 or 3 per barrette)
- Fishing Line or Thin Floral Wire
- Squeeze-Bottle Fabric Paints (optional)
At the Party: For Balloon Barrettes: - Open the barrette.
- Knot a balloon around the barrette so that the ends of the balloon sit on top of the barrette.
- Continue knotting balloons in alternating colors around the barrette in this fashion until the barrette is completely covered.
For Shoelace Barrettes: - Open the barrette.
- Tie the end of fishing line or wire to one side of the top of the barrette.
- Place one end of the shoelace on top of the barrette.
- Make a two inch loop and secure it at the base, wrapping fishing line or florist's wire tightly around the loop.
- Continue making loops and adding laces when necessary until the whole barrette is covered.
- If desired, guests can paint polka dots or other designs on the shoelaces with fabric paint.
