Preparation:
- Make a list of items to be found on the scavenger hunt.
- Make a copy of the list for each team.
- Younger children will need fewer items on their list while older kids have the patience to keep looking for more items.
- Use your best judgment when choosing how many items to include from these suggestions:
- 10 seashells
- 1 large shell
- 1 tiny shell
- 2 perfect seashells with both sides attached
- fossil
- coin
- leaf
- seed
- small feather
- large feather
- smooth rock
- drift wood
- crab shell
- crab claw
- a long piece of seaweed
- fish bone
- fish hook
- Frisbee
- beach ball
- beach pail
- sand shovel
- palm frond
- piece of rope
- sunglasses
- sunscreen lotion
At the Party: - Divide the children into teams and hand each team a copy of the list of items to find.
- Give them a time limit to find as many items as possible and then meet back at the party area.
- Younger kids should spend about 20-30 minutes on their scavenger hunt, but parties for older kids (ages 9 and up) can allow an hour for searching.
- Make sure each team has someone with a watch and someone that knows how to tell time.
- Now send everyone out to hunt!
- The team that returns on time with the most items is the winner.
