Party Planning
For peace of mind, begin planning 6 - 8 weeks in advance to allow time to purchase and mail invitations, as well as to give your guests time to RSVP and make travel plans, if needed. Don't panic if you find yourself short on time; you can still plan a great party! Planning ahead simply reduces the risk of conflicts with guests' plans and may increase attendance.
To simplify the rest of the party planning process, check out our Party Planning Timeline, take a look at our When & Where to Have the Party page, and read the paragraphs below for information on selecting decorations, supplies, activities, and more for your child's party.
What Do I Need for the Party?

Decorating & Food Ideas
Fun Ideas to Set the Mood
Make the party area magical with these decorating tips:
- Set a top hat upside-down in the center of the party table. Set a stuffed rabbit inside the hat. Tie brightly colored scarves end-to-end, and have them cascade out of the hat. Or, attach one end of the scarves to the inside of the hat and tape the other end to the ceiling.
- Tape playing cards to the table and walls. Make oversized playing cards by drawing hearts, spades, diamonds, clubs, and numbers with black and red markers on rectangles of white poster board.
- Cut starburst shapes out of dark purple and blue or black poster board, and write magical sayings on them with metallic gold and silver markers. Use words such as "abracadabra," "hocus pocus," and "presto change-o." Hang these magical posters around the party area.
Magic Munchies
When it comes to food, partygoers are usually perfectly content to eat pizza or hotdogs, which is certainly much easier on the hosts! However, if you have the time and would like to serve up some magical treats, consider these ideas:- Magic Potion - Freeze cranberry and grape juice in ice cube trays before the party. Serve a colorless soda at the party, such as ginger ale or sprite. Let your guests select their ice cubes and "magically" change the color of their drinks!
- Rabbit in the Hat - Bake cupcakes, and let them cool. Remove the cupcakes from the paper cups, and then frost them with black (chocolate) icing. Use white (vanilla) icing to make a band just below the top of each cupcake to turn them into up-side-down top hats. Use your favorite sugar cookie recipe (or our Sugar Cut-Out Cookies recipe) and a rabbit-shaped cookie cutter to bake rabbit sugar cookies. Frost the cookies with white frosting, and add pink gel frosting to make noses and the insides of their ears. Finally, stick one "rabbit" in each "top hat," and serve.
- Magic Wands - Using a standard pretzel rod as the base, dip all but 1" of each stick into melted chocolate. Let the dipped pretzels cool on wax paper. Then, ice the 1" tip of each pretzel with vanilla icing to make perfect pretzel wands!
