What You'll Need:- Several Pieces of Paper
- A Pen or Marker
Preparation:
Write out clues on pieces of paper. Using the samples below or your own ideas, write a clue that leads to a location on each piece of paper. If preschoolers are participating, you will have to either find a helper to assist them with reading the clues or draw pictures of the locations of subsequent clues. Hide all clues in the appropriate spots starting with the last clue and working backwards. Place the cake out of sight, and bring it out just before the children arrive at the last clue. (Ideally, the last clue should take them to the cake table.)
Sample Clues:
- I'm as big as a house, or a little bit more; I've left a clue by the front door.
- I've got an itty bitty brain so I'm kind of dense, but still smart enough to leave a clue by the fence.
- Your next clue is higher than a T-Rex's knee; look for it on the trunk of a tree.
- What happened to dinosaurs--who really knows? Your clue, however, is hidden by the hose.
- I send fear through your bones with my big dino tracks; look by the couch where you sit to relax.
- These are a few of my favorite things: Volcanoes, meat, boys and rocks, and hiding clues near a sandbox.
- It's a clue that you want, a clue that you seek. Go to the ____ and take a peek.
- We are the dinosaurs; cake is what we're looking for. To find enough's a mighty chore; you'd better look near the ____ door.
At the Party:
Have someone appear with the first clue and tell the guests that you just received word that T-Rex has stolen the cake. It's up to them to follow the clues to find it!
