What You'll Need:

  • A Large Piece of Cardboard or White Poster Board
  • Our Penguin Template
  • An X-Acto Knife or Scissors
  • A Black Marker
  • 3 Bean Bags

Preparation:
  1. Using our Penguin Template for reference, cut a penguin face from a large piece of cardboard. The face should be at least 2' across.
  2. Draw the penguin's facial features using a black marker.
  3. Color in the eyes.
  4. Use an X-Acto knife to cut out a mouth.
  5. If you need to make bean bags for this activity, fill socks with beans or rice, and tie them off with string. Make sure the bean bags are small enough to go through the penguin's mouth.

If Playing Outdoors: Attach a stake to the back of the penguin, and plant the penguin in the grass.

If Playing Indoors: Hang the penguin at an appropriate height, or prop it up on a chair.

At the Party:
  1. To start, the children line up in front of the penguin, throwing distance away.
  2. You may adjust the distance based on the age and abilities of each guest.
  3. Hand each guest 3 bean bags.
  4. Each child takes a turn trying to toss the bean bags into the penguin's mouth.
  5. Award prizes for the number of bean bags which pass through the hole, or give a general prize, such as penguin stickers, to everyone.
