Braided barrettes are easy to make and look so cute in your hair! Once girls get the hang of this craft, they'll want to make lots of barrettes so make sure you buy extras.

What You'll Need:

  • A 2" long bar barrette
  • 1 yard of 1/8" thick ribbon in one color
  • 1 yard of 1/8" thick ribbon in a different color

How to Make a Braided Barrette:
  1. Make sure the barrette is closed until the craft is completed.
  2. Place the two pieces of ribbon together so that the ends meet.
  3. Fold the ribbon in half and then thread them through the top of the barrette.
  4. Make sure the ribbon strands are centered and that the barred side of the barrette is facing up.
  5. Tie the ribbon in a knot at the top of the barrette.

  6. Start by taking one strand of ribbon from the left and then placing it over the bar to the right and then under the top of the barrette bar to the left.

  7. Pull the ribbon to the left until it's tight against the barrette.
  8. Then, take the ribbon of the same color from the right side and place it on top of the bar to the left and then under the barrette bar to the right.

  9. Pull the ribbon to the right until it's tight against the barrette.
  10. Now do the same with the second color of ribbon. Pull one over to the right and under to the left.
  11. Then pull the other ribbon of the second color over to the left and under to the right.

  12. Continue this pattern of go over and under the bar while alternating which color of ribbon you use.

  13. When you get to the bottom of the barrette, tightly tie a knot with the ribbon.
  14. Let the extra ribbon hang down.
  15. Your braided barrette is now ready to wear!
