This Halloween season, dress up as a member of the heavy metal band from Des Moines, Iowa. Slipknot is known for its aggressive style of music and its wild live performances, but you can't buy those and put them on your face. However, you CAN put one of these Slipknot masks on and pretend to be part of the face-melting rock band that isn't afraid to stir things up. Maybe that's why all of the members wear these crazy masks during their live shows... Perhaps all of the band members' faces got melted off while playing a show one time, so now they have to wear intricate masks to hide the unpleasant sights from the crowd. After all, the audience did pay money to see Slipknot live in concert, so there would be no need to expose them to such a repulsive images. Fans get what they pay for, though, which is loud heavy metal rock music, tons of headbanging, and a sense of organized chaos.
Slipknot's music is characterized mostly by heavily-distorted, down-tuned guitars, distinct drums, growling, and rapping. The themes the band covers in its songs include anger, love, darkness, psychosis. Each of the band's members wears a specific mask at each live show; each mask is unique to the member and complement's his personality in some way. All of the masks are horrifying in their own right, mostly reminiscent of evil clowns and violent-looking creatures. Although wearing the masks was originally considered by many as a gimmick to try to sell more albums, Slipknot has refuted these claims and stated that it is the band's way of making the shows more about the music than themselves.
